Carrots as a raw material for the cut salad and IQF industries have been in scarcity in Greece for the last 10 days, and the gap is expected to continue until the end of June when Dutch and German production commences. The main reasons for this scarcity are drought conditions in Spain, Greece, and Italy and crop competition that left carrots out of the available cultivated lands. In W18, carrot prices for big sizes (5-8 diameter) skyrocketed to USD 0.55/kg, representing a 50% YoY increase. The purchase prices are expected to reach their highest level in the last week of May.
