The South African maize harvest in the 2023/24 season is forecast to increase by 6% to 16.40 million metric tons (mmt) from 15.47 mmt in the 2022/23 season, according to the government's Grain and Oilseed Supply and Demand Estimates Committee (S&DEC). The expected harvest will comprise 8.5 mmt of white maize, primarily for human consumption, and 7.9 mmt of yellow maize, predominantly used in animal feed production.
