The total supply of South Africa's white maize is projected at 9.58 million metric tons (mmt) for the 2023/24 marketing season. This includes an opening stock level on May 1 of 1.08 mmt and domestic commercial deliveries of 8.43 mmt. Whole white maize imports are estimated at 0 mt for the season, early deliveries at 55,795 mt, and a surplus of 15 thousand mt.
The total demand (domestic plus exports) for white maize is projected at 7.94 mmt. The total domestic demand is projected at 6.88 mmt. This includes 4.94 mmt processed for human consumption, 1.9 mmt processed for animal and industrial consumption, 11,200 mt for gristing, 14,500 mt withdrawn by producers, 5,500 mt released to end-consumers and a balancing figure of 5 thousand mt (net receipts and net dispatches).
A quantity of 165 thousand mt of processed products and 900 thousand mt of white whole maize is estimated for exports for the 2023/24 marketing season.
