Strike in Spain Affecting Portuguese Imports and Exports

In March, it is common to find Spanish strawberries complemented by other Spanish fruits in the supermarket’s shelves in Portugal. However, due to the strike of trucks in Spain that started on 14th March 2022, around 60% of the imported strawberries from Spain didn’t arrive.

The strike in Spain is also affecting the exports of oranges and lemons from Portugal to Spain and France, due to the difficulty of circulation created by the trucks and the drivers after crossing the border. Adding to this difficult set of circumstances are the increase of fuel prices and the monetary costs of the damaged goods which are catastrophic to some producers that are exporting their citrus.
