Sugar cane farmers in South Africa have started diversifying their crops to offset the losses faced in the sugar industry. Two primary commodities have been explored, namely cotton and fruit trees. As sugarcane farmers face an uncertain future, they are staking their recovery on planting these alternatives. Diversifying into cash crops is an excellent strategy to create alternative cash generation initiatives to offset the financial losses.
