Although the Philippines is a major exporter of bananas, most of the domestic supply is consumed locally. In fact, approximately 66% of the Philippines bananas are sold domestically. However, currently, suppliers are focusing on producing and exporting banana chips to countries in North America and Europe. Currently, 16.5% are sold as by-products around the world. This is so as people are becoming more and more health-conscious due to the COVID pandemic. For the longest time, potato chips have dominated mid-day snacking despite the fact that it contains high contents of trans fat. But now, people tend to find a healthier alternative to their afternoon munchies. Suppliers are expecting an increase in the sale of 30% of banana chips before the end of the year 2021.
