On 16th March 2022, the Italian Minister for Agricultural Policies formally announced the approval of the national certification regulations for the sustainability of the wine sector using the procedures and standards provided by the National Quality System of Integrated Production (SQNPI). The model aims to guarantee more sustainable viticulture in line with the most recent guidelines provided by the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The reform process started in 2018 to set a comprehensive set of rules including the three pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, and social. The good practices of sustainability are finally regulated into a system. Upon reform completion in 2023, the sustainability in the vineyard will be regulated by the new SQNPI standards.
