Taiwan was declared free of foot and mouth disease in 2020, and resumed its fresh pork export after a 23-year hiatus. From January to November 2020, the total export volume of pork and value added pork products was 2,541 tons, valued at 18 Million USD, with the main destination to Hong Kong and Macau and Japan, at 1,759 tons, 308 tons and 256 tons respectively, according to the Custom Bureau.
Taiwan's Council of Agriculture stated that the most likely country to be added as an export market in 2021 is the Philippines, due to the strong local demand and the fact that talks are underway with local officials as reported on January 5, 2021.
