Thailand Proposes Exporting Fresh Mangosteen Without Steam Heat Treatment to Japan by August 2023

Previously, Thai mangosteen export to Japan required steam heat treatment (VHT) to eliminate fruit flies, allowing the import of fresh mangosteen. Thailand's Department of Agriculture has proposed a new exporting procedure without steam heat treatment (VHT) for fresh Thai mangosteen to Japan. The Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, and Fisheries (MAFF) is implementing the new procedures by August 2023. It will allow Thai mangosteen to be shipped by vessel, resulting in lower costs and selling prices in Japan. This new procedure may attract more tourists to Thailand, similar to the popularity of Thai mangoes in Japan.
