The Spanish Hass Avocado campaign has officially begun with the first harvests. Although avocado trees only begin to produce fully in 7–10 days, the current strong demand has accelerated the harvest as some growers try to capitalise on current price levels before the traditional price drop that occurs in December. A 30% YoY decrease in avocado production is anticipated in 2022 as a result of restrictions and water scarcity. Therefore, some farmers will take advantage of the circumstances to stop production in their fields by pruning. In W45, the average purchase price in the field for fruit weighing more than 155g is USD 2.80/kg. Meanwhile, prices for fruit weighing less than 155g range between USD 1.87-2.07/kg, representing an 8% increase YoY.
