The Ethiopian government has launched cluster wheat cultivation in various regions, primarily Oromia, Somalia, and the southern regions. Ethiopia is expected to be the number one wheat producing country in sub-Saharan Africa for 2022/23, with a projected yield of 5.7MMT grown on 2.6M hectares of land. Wheat harvesting began in W43 in many regions around the country, particularly in areas covered by the cluster farming initiative. The government has boldly taken the lead in ensuring food security, substituting imports and benefiting farmers with wheat exports in a modern trading system.
