Gia Lai Province's Sweet Potato Prices Plummeted by 60% in Two Months

In Apr-24, the market price of local sweet potatoes plummeted to USD 0.15 per kilogram (kg). This sharp drop in sweet potato prices in Gia Lai province, currently at less than $0.4 per kg, marks a staggering reduction of more than 60% from two months ago, causing significant financial losses for local farmers. This decline is mainly due to reduced purchases from China and subdued domestic consumption demand in the early months of the year. However, the supply of sweet potatoes from various provinces has surged. Kon Tum and Gia Lai provinces, in particular, have seen significant growth in sweet potato cultivation compared to the same period in 2023, with some areas experiencing growth rates of up to 300% year-over-year (YoY).
