The Spanish Fishing Confederation has requested the European Commission open an investigation on Chinese tuna exports. Chinese exports are exempt from import tariffs. However, fisheries in Spain and the EU claim that fisheries in China receive government grants and incentives, which gives their products an unfair advantage and affects the entire industry.
Spanish and European fisheries are demanding the EU eliminate the tax exemptions on Chinese exports and apply tariffs if they are found to be helped unfairly by the Chinese government.
