Italian Cod Fillet Consumption Will Not Be Affected by the High Prices During the Holiday Season

As per Italian traditions, consumption of fish tends to rise significantly during the Christmas holidays, with an 18% increase in purchased volume. This year, the prices of imported cod have sharply grown. In December 2021, cod fillet prices from the Northern Sea varied between USD 12.00-15.00/kg, while in December 2022, prices increased by 13% YoY, ranging from USD 13.50-17.00/kg. Cod-based dishes are traditionally prepared on Christmas Eve and on New Year’s Eve. Despite the higher prices, wholesalers confirm that imports of cod should not be affected.
