Lack of knowledge limits banana exports from southeastern Brazil

Most Brazilian producers lack adequate knowledge of handling and packaging for long distances, limiting their international markets to neighboring countries or sending orders by air to distant destinations. The proper treatment of the banana crown and more ventilated packaging would have to be implemented in an adequate way for longer trips, in contrast to what currently occurs over shorter distances.

Few producers in the Northeast region of Brazil understood the need and invested in the necessary improvements since they are located far from Brazil's largest consumer markets, making exports a natural path. On the other hand, producers located in the most populous area of the Southeast have access to a large local market and, therefore, less information needed to seek export markets.
