In Japan, the domestic sales price of 0.5–1 kg of frozen greenland halibut is fixed at a high price of USD 8.01/kg (JPY 1.08k/kg) in mid-February. China has been buying more than expected since the Lunar New Year holiday, making it difficult for Japanese players to participate. The price of frozen greenland halibut returned to high levels due to China's strong buying interest and the tendency of the Japanese Yen to appreciate. While it is a transitional period leading up to the commencement of fishing for new fish in May 2023, the shortage is forecasted to persist because it is challenging to purchase raw materials only from domestic inventories.
