The arrival of the first vessels carrying lychee from Madagascar to Europe is a tradition in the world of fruit importers and wholesalers in France and the rest of the continent. This aromatic fruit is an essential part of the fruit basket for New Year's Eve celebrations in Europe. And every year, there are many expectations about how the campaign and sales prices will develop during its marketing period.

This season (2021/2022) ended with good results both in terms of sales and quality. Regarding volume, the data indicate that the Lychee market practically did not change compared to the 2020/2021 campaign. Around 15,000 MT was imported on two vessels carrying Lychee exclusively. It should be noted that the production volume of Lychee in Madagascar is 80,000 MT, of which only around 20,000 MT are exported, mainly to Europe. In terms of price, the prices were noticeably higher than the previous year, with an average of EUR 2.80 per kilo (versus 2.10 per kilo of the last campaign).
