The Total Allowable Catch For Some of the Most Important Pelagic Fish in the Northeast Atlantic Was Set for 2023

After months of discussion, the EU countries and northeast Atlantic coastal countries (UK and Norway), including the scientific advisory board commission, reached an agreement for the 2023 fishing quotas for mackerel, blue whiting, and Atlantic Scandinavian herring. This agreement specifies and sets the 2023 total allowable catches (TACs) for these three species. The TAC for mackerel is set at 782,066MT, a 2% reduction from the quota set in 2022. After a particularly challenging fishing year in 2022, the TAC for blue whiting in 2023 was set at 1.36MMT, an increase of 81%. The fishing quota for Atlantic Scandinavian Herring was set at 511,17 MT, a 15% reduction from 2022.
