Harvesting for Uganda's second sesame season of 2022 is expected to start by the end of November. In eastern Uganda, farmers who planted early have already started harvesting and drying the seeds. Sesame production this season is expected to be high due to favourable weather conditions. From August to October, Uganda has received above average rainfall, unlike many neighbouring countries, which have experienced prolonged drought, according to the Uganda Meteorological Department. The second sesame season is characterised by two peak sales from the producers, which run between the second and third weeks of December and January, respectively. This is because most producers are small-scale farmers who sell near the Christmas holidays and the rest towards the end of January before the usual school opening, as this is the period for heavy spending among consumers.
