Even if volumes were still significantly below pre-Brexit levels, customs data show that UK exports of fresh and frozen sheep meat in January increased compared to very low levels one year ago. So, this January, volumes were 13% up compared to last year, reaching over 4,000 MT.

On a declining trend over the recent years, UK import volumes also saw a 12% increase compared to last year totaling 4,500 MT. Leg cuts have largely shown more resilience against the declines than imports of other types of sheep meat. To satisfy the stable demand, the UK imports over 8.5 million leg joints, most of them being from New Zealand.
