Due to the Pongal and Makar Sankranti festivals in South India, farmers did not harvest crops for 3-4 days. Due to this, there was a temporary hike in the vegetable prices from 12 January 2022 to 17 January 2022. Farmers started to harvest the crops and expected the arrival of huge quantities in local markets, which would lead to a drastic price drop. For example, the tomato price in Kolar for 15 Jan 2022 was USD 0.4 USD per kg, which is expected to be USD 0.2 per kg in the coming week, starting from 18 January.
