Apart from China, the United States (US), Czech Republic, and Canada have significantly increased their spending on Vietnamese durian from 2 to 28 times compared to 2022. According to the latest data from the General Department of Customs, Vietnam's durian exports for the past 11 months have reached nearly USD 2.2 billion, marking a roughly fivefold increase from the previous year. Fresh durian alone accounted for USD 2 billion, almost eight times higher than the corresponding period in 2022.
China leads the market, contributing USD 1.97 billion, a 15-fold increase. The Czech Republic follows closely, spending USD 9.7 million, a remarkable 28-fold growth, the highest among durian-importing countries. Additionally, exports to France, Canada, the US, and Papua New Guinea have risen by 32% to 8 times.
The Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association attributes this surge to the competitive pricing and consistent quality of Vietnamese fresh durian compared to countries like Thailand, Malaysia, and the Philippines, prompting increased spending from various nations.
