As the harvested crop of Virginia peanuts in 2020 was smaller than expected, it causes supply to be tightened in the US as shellers are reluctant to commit to shipments in Q3 and Q4 of 2021. The 2021 crop will be planted in April/May and many shellers are waiting until then before taking on any new contracts. Once the planted acre numbers are known, it will be easier for shellers to forecast before taking on future commitments.
