Due to severe winter climates, bananas in the southern area of Brazil have a darker colored peel. The cold reached the coastal regions of the Brazilian southern states from south of Sao Paulo to Rio Grande do Sul states. Although the taste and the quality of the product was not affected, the appearance counts as a negative factor. Some exporters are now sourcing bananas from the southeast region where the winter weather was less intense.
