Cassava root prices in Brazil have surged due to increased demand and lower supply, with the average price per ton reaching R$ 793.49 after a 1.5% increase this week. This is attributed to a decrease in the amount of cassava to be processed by the starch industry, with demand not being fully met and starch factories operating at 47% of capacity. The situation is worsened by heavy rains in Paraná and São Paulo states, leading to reduced harvest and supply. As a result, starch prices have also increased, with the average weekly price per ton reaching R$ 4,391.52. The demand for cassava starch remains strong, especially for export, but liquidity is low and availability is limited, leading to weak demand in some areas.
