The concentrate price has been higher since March 2020 than the year before. The price of maize is still quite high and is not declining. The price of hay has been increasing since August 2019. The moving twelve-month average balance initially increased slightly from December 2019. This was because the feed price was lower and the milk price at a higher level than a year ago. From April onwards, the situation was reversed and the feed price was higher, the milk price lower and, moreover, the cattle prices fell. As a result, the balance in August 2020 has moved further away from the long-term average. Standardized farm The monthly balance of a standardized farm of 102 dairy cows, with an average milk production of 8,980 liters per cow, amounted to 14,000 euros in August 2020.
