The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries in Indonesia has updated the estimated fish resource potential in 11 State Fisheries Management Areas, following a new decree. The decree uses a more advanced calculation method to support sustainable fisheries management and a measured fishing policy. The total estimated potential for fish resources is 12.01 million tons per year, with a permissible amount of fish catch being 8.6 million tons per year, according to the decree. The potential estimates are divided into nine groups of fish resources, including demersal fish, reef fish, small pelagics, squid, Penaeid shrimp, lobsters, small crabs, crabs, and large pelagics. The data collection and analysis were conducted by researchers from various sources, including research vessels, observers, and fishery statistics.
