Significantly more potatoes are processed in the Netherlands than in May last year

This year, the Dutch potato industry used 355,000 tons of potatoes in May. That is 37,000 tons more than the same period in 2021. This is apparent from the processing figures of the Association for the Potato Processing Industry (Vavi) and the Dutch Potato Organization (NAO). Processors used about the same volume last April as they did in May. In April 2021 they only needed 292,000 tons. The total potato volume so far this season has been processed into 192,000 tons of end product. The processing figures so far this season are heading for one of the largest volumes in the past ten years. The industry only needed more potatoes in the 2016/2017 season (3.9 million tons) and in 2017/2018 (more than 4 million tons).
