The Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries in South Korea, along with local governments and other agencies, conducted a special inspection on country of origin labeling ahead of Chuseok, the country's biggest national holiday. The inspection focused on items for sacrificial consumption and gifts, as well as recently increased imports. The inspection covered 24,391 places and caught 78 companies for violations of the Act on the Labeling of Origin of Agricultural and Fishery Products. Sea bream was the most common item with labeling violations, and China was the country with the highest number of violations. The ministry plans to increase fines for non-marking of origin to ensure proper labeling of aquatic products.
