The first bulk carrier carrying 68,000 tons of Brazilian corn to China arrived at the port of Dongguan, in Guangdong province, on Saturday. The unloading of the cereal marks the opening of a new corridor for the South American country to export corn to the Chinese market, according to a statement released by COFCO. This was the first load of the new agreement made with China, which decided to add Brazilian corn to its shopping list. The Asian giant's objective is to further expand corn import channels and reduce geoeconomic risks, in order to guarantee its stocks and diversify suppliers. Ding Lixin, a researcher at the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences in Beijing, cited as an example the risks caused by external factors such as the Russia-Ukraine conflict and the drop in corn shipments from the United States.
