In 2022, Tunisia's fishery trade balance experienced a surplus of TND 464.8 million, marking a 26.3% increase compared to the previous year. This surge was largely due to a 1% rise in fishery production to 149,300 tonnes, despite a 29.2% decrease in aquaculture production. Fishery exports also saw an increase, reaching 38,400 tonnes and generating TND 871 million, primarily driven by a significant increase in sea bream exports. However, there was a 25.7% decrease in canned sardine exports, despite their value remaining steady. Bluefin tuna exports also saw a decline. On the other hand, imports of fishery products decreased in volume but increased in value, largely due to a growth in imports of frozen tuna for processing.
