P. Seelen, a Dutch trading company, has received the first batch of Turkish tomatoes for the season, marking the start of the tomato import season. The company has been importing Turkish tomatoes for 15 years and plans to try buying them in bulk this year. This shift is due to increasing demand and a decrease in supply from traditional winter suppliers like Spain, which is experiencing water shortages and high wages. Turkish tomatoes are preferred for their quality and the speed of delivery, which is only six days. The country is expanding its tomato cultivation using modern and disease-resistant varieties, and is also expected to export more quince, pomegranate, fig, and lemon this year. All Turkish suppliers are certified by GlobalGAP, GRASP, and most are also Sedex/SMETA certified.
