Warning for producers of Medjool dates: "Mediterranean fruit fly"

In Adana, one of the significant production centers of jujube in Turkey, agricultural engineers warned producers about the Mediterranean fruit fly. Like many other products, jujube is produced in many gardens in the Mediterranean region, including Hatay, Mersin, and Antalya. It was reported that the concentration of the Mediterranean fruit fly, which is fought every season, may increase due to the impact of agricultural frost on citrus fruits last winter and sunburn caused by excessive heat. It was noted that fruits that have fallen to the ground and are rotting along with the sunburn provide a food source for the flies. Agricultural engineers who visited the gardens in Kozan district informed the producers these days when the jujube is starting to ripen. Agricultural Engineer Barış Kurtaran mentioned that damage has been seen in stone fruits this year, but there is no problem with jujube.
