In W19 in the plum and prune landscape, ASOEX indicates that Chilean plum exports to China in the 2022/23 season are expected to reach 55K MT, a record high. Plums, including prunes, have become the second largest Chilean fresh fruit exported to China after cherries. In Extremadura in Spain, normal plum production is expected in the area of the Vega Baja, except for the late variety Angeleno, whose volumes are anticipated to fall significantly compared to the 2022 season due to poor flowering. Lastly, the first plums, of older and less significant varieties, are expected to arrive in early June. Although, for Spain, the variety that truly marks the start of the season is the Black Splendor, which is anticipated to arrive between June 15th and 20th, since it is appreciated by the market.
