Green mung beans, which have gained popularity in the Western world for their significant health benefits, experienced significant price decreases in 2022, which hit Chinese farmers hard. Ongoing logistical difficulties and high freight costs also affected the market negatively. As a result, in 2023, mung bean cultivation areas in China are expected to decrease by about 50% YoY, with final production forecast around 75K MT as farmers shift production to other products despite the cultivation area and soil moisture being good for mung beans.
