Raki is a traditional Turkish alcoholic beverage and its production has declined by 20,000 kmt in the last 15 years in the country. The government has issued additional taxes on alcoholic beverages in Turkey in the last decade which inflated their prices and pushed down the domestic demand.

Grape and anise are used extensively in the production of this beverage and as a result of the decline in the production, grape and anise growers have reportedly lost around 73 million USD worth of revenue.
