Commercial sablefish are harvested year-round in British Columbia and the species, renowned for their luxurious taste and high-fat content, are a valuable commodity to the Province. Sablefish range from the Bering Strait in Alaska down to California, putting British Columbia in the middle of their habitat. The majority of the Province's catch is shipped to Japan.
