Nigeria is only 2.2 percent self-sufficient on Wheat and depends on imports to meet the huge deficit. She is currently the world’s largest importer of USA hard red and white winter wheat. In other to boost production and reduce reliance on imports, the government is investing in Wheat producers by providing them with certified wheat seed, fertilizer, training on modern farm techniques and a commitment to buy their wheat at the market rate. Nigeria currently faces significant challenges in the areas of low wheat yields, climatic extremes and variability, costly farm inputs, threats due to pests and diseases
