In early 2020, US oranges were imported to Vietnam with a retail price of up to 3.41 USD/ kg, significantly higher compared to the market price of domestic oranges. Vietnam has also granted import permits for blueberries from the United States. The demand for imported fruits in Vietnam is very large despite the high price as Vietnamese consumers consume a lot of fruit in general and are open to trying out new varieties. Fruits that are mainly imported to Vietnam are apple, grapes, and cherry, which are temperate fruits that cannot be produced in Vietnam efficiently. In addition, there are other cold-weather fruits such as kiwi, strawberry, pomegranate, plum, and blueberry that are being imported to Vietnam as well.
