The decrease in the total volume transferred through Chile's ports in 2022 compared to 2021 was due to a decrease in solid bulk and general cargo.
Solid bulk decreased by 11.8%, while general cargo decreased by 9.2%. However, the value increase of the loads transferred is due to an increase in the value of liquid bulk, refrigerated cargo, and general cargo. Liquid bulk saw a 63.7% increase, while refrigerated and general cargo increased by 20.2% and 11.9%, respectively.
Additionally, the last report from the Foreign Trade of the Chilean Maritime and Port Chamber shows that over the past eight years, Chile's export cargo in terms of volume decreased by 0.7% compared to 2015, while imported cargo increased by 12.1% in the same period.
However, the total transferred cargo (exports and imports) grew by 5.1% when comparing 2022 and 2015. In terms of value in US dollars, the value of imported products was higher than that of exported products, with imported products increasing their value by 72.6%, and exported products increasing by 59.4%. The total commercial exchange (imports and exports) increased by 65.2% when comparing 2022 and 2015.
