Banana Marketing and Export Association (Acorbanec) reports that in the first eight months of 2023, Ecuador exported 247.96 million banana boxes, a 7.17% year-over-year (YoY) increase. The European Union (EU) saw a 22.41% increase in Ecuadorian banana exports, driven by increased purchases from the Netherlands, Germany, Italy, and Belgium. Banana exports also increased to Russia, the United States (US), the United Kingdom (UK), Africa, East Asia, Central Asia, Oceania, and the Southern Cone. However, banana exports to the Middle East, Eastern Europe, EFTA, and Canada decreased by 8.38% YoY, 46.94% YoY, 13.25% YoY, and 81.90% YoY, respectively. The decline in banana exports to Ukraine due to the conflict with Russia and the Middle East's reduced exports to Ukraine also contributed to the fall.
