This tuber crop is too delicate to contemplate overseas exports: it is crucial always to control the temperature and reduce the transit time as much as possible. Any drastic temperature change may endanger the quality of insurance too.

Ideally, when fresh, it should be stored and transported between 11º and 12º C, as below this, the cold injury would provoke visible external and internal damage. The flesh would turn into a more brownish color instead of orange, and small holes in the surface would appear, leading to fungal attacks. On the contrary, over 15ºC for storage, the root may ferment.

Besides, it should not be randomly mixed with other vegetables, as sweet potatoes are also moisture sensitive -some leaf vegetables producing water must be avoided at any cost in shared trucks. The cost optimization for transportation may result in damage to the product. Therefore, it is recommended to export full loads or take extra care in case of groupage and not exceed five days of transit.
