The chickpea harvest in Argentina is ready for export in December 2022. The plantation area in Argentina for the 2022-2023 season is smaller than in 2021-2022. The production volume is lower as the province of Cordoba has been badly affected by drought. In the Northern regions of Argentina, the late frosts have also severely affected the crop and could result in massive losses. Producers are concerned about whether they will be able to compete with Canadian prices at current calculations. In Turkey, Canadian mixed-size chickpea offers for December stand around USD 1150 CFR Mersin, while the offers from Argentina are around USD 1080 for 7mm, USD 1180 for 8mm, and USD 1280 for 9mm CFR Mersin. Therefore, if the expected prices come true, there may not be a high demand for Argentine chickpeas from Turkey.
