The Kenyan government is set to scrap duties charged on rice imports to boost rice supply in the domestic market while also lowering costs. Rice prices have increased by 12.5% from January 2022. Kenya imports more than 80% of rice, and the reprieve on import duty is projected to lower prices by about 35% come February 2023.
