Even with the restrictions imposed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the trajectory of increasing exports did not slow down and Portugal reached a record value of 90 million euros in exports of pork, meat and derivatives in the 1st half of 2020. This figure represents a 40% increase from the same period last year and with regard to export destinations.

With regard to countries outside the EU, Angola continues to be the top destination for pork exports representing 45% of the market share. China is in second place with 35% of exports, followed by Cape Verde (8%), Japan (7%) and Switzerland (5%).

In terms of exported volume, Portugal occupies the 12th place in the European Union among pork exporting countries, being very close to surpassing Finland in this "ranking", with the month of July indicating that the second half of 2020 will surpass the first.
