Spain’s Canned Seafood Industry Sees Production Decline, but Value Increases Despite Dip in Exports in 2022

In 2022, Spain's canned seafood production reached 305,403MT, which represents a 7.6% YoY decline. Despite the decrease in production, the value of canned seafood increased by 5.7% due to inflation. Except for mackerel and clam, every canned seafood product saw a drop in production. Canned tuna is the leading product, representing almost 70% of the total canned seafood produced, with a value increase of 9% YoY. The canned seafood industry in Spain also experienced a decline in exports, with 222,920MT exported in 2022 worth USD 1.37B, representing a 10.7% YoY increase in export value despite a 1.67% decrease in volume.
