Tanzanian Meat Export Sales Value up 85% MoM Due to the World Cup in Qatar

Tanzania has benefited from the FIFA World Cup finals in Qatar due to the increase in meat sales throughout the tournament. Qatar is the largest importer of meat from Tanzania, especially goat meat, followed by Oman, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Other leading countries in importing Tanzanian meat are Kenya, Togo, Kuwait, China, Comoros, and Canada.
Goat meat is the main exported meat product accounting for approximately 74% of the meat exported in the country at 1,047MT, followed by sheep at 343MT, beef at 32MT, chicken at 0.67MT, and pork at 0.2MT. 37% of the meat exported from Tanzania in November went to Qatar. The value of meat sales also increased from USD 2.9M (TZS 6.8B) in October to USD 5.37M (TZS 12.5B) in November indicating an increase of 85% MoM.
