Turkish Thyme Exporters Have Their Sights Set on the US Market

Turkey meets 80% of the world's production of thyme which is among the most demanded medicinal and aromatic products globally. In 2022, Turkey exported spices worth USD 169M, with thyme accounting for 31% of the exports, reaching USD 54M. The US is one of the major markets for Turkish thyme, with export worth USD 10M in 2022. In the first two months of 2023, thyme exports amounted to USD 8M and are expected to rise to USD 150M in the medium term. Almost all of the thyme production in Turkey, which exceeds 20,000MT is exported. Turkey has the potential to produce 25,000MT of thyme in the short term and 40,000MT in the medium term with new thyme plantations.
