Malaysia Garlic Price Increases as China Battles COVID-19

The wholesale price of fresh garlic in Malaysia was USD 2.04/kg in W3 June 2022 which is 22.19% higher YoY. The price increase at the beginning of 2022 coincides with the resurgence of the COVID-19 pandemic in China which led to renewed enforcement of its zero-COVID border control policy. The price of fresh garlic in Malaysia spiked because sufficient volumes could not be imported from China resulting in a supply shortage.
