(Wonju=Yonhap News) Reporter Im Bo-yeon = In preparation for the farming season, Wonju City in Gangwon Province will operate a "Concentrated Collection Period for Agricultural Waste" until May to create a pleasant rural environment and promote resource recycling. During this period, the city plans to support the smooth disposal of agricultural waste generated by farms, and conduct intensive inspections on illegal incineration and illegal dumping, which are identified as major causes of forest fires. Additionally, to promote the proper disposal and recycling of agricultural waste, the city will implement a collection and reward program for agricultural waste, targeting items such as waste plastic and empty pesticide containers. The unit price for the reward is 120 won per kg of waste plastic, 1,300 won per kg of plastic pesticide bottles, and 2,200 won per kg of pesticide bags. Before collection, agricultural waste should be thoroughly cleaned of soil and foreign matter, then classified by item and disposed of at the village's communal collection site. Proper separation and disposal increases collection efficiency and greatly contributes to creating a pleasant rural environment. On the 14th, Jang Seong-mi, Director of the Resource Recycling Division, said, "The proper disposal and collection of agricultural waste is an important task for protecting the rural environment" and "We ask for the active interest and participation of farmers."
